MOLLY WARDAGUGA INSTITUTE FOR FIRST NATIONS BIRTH RIGHTS

Molly Logo

based at Charles Darwin University, was established in honour of the late Burarra Elder and midwife Molly Wardaguga. The Institute works to strengthen First Nations maternal and child health by combining community-led research, clinical expertise, and First Nations knowledge systems. Its work is transforming maternity services to ensure that all First Nations families have access to safe, culturally responsive, and self-determined care.

CHARLES DARWIN UNIVERSITY

is a leader in education and research focused on the Northern Territory and the broader Asia-Pacific region. Through partnerships with communities, government, and organisations such as the Molly Wardaguga Institute and Djäkamirr Co-op, CDU supports initiatives that drive social impact, cultural understanding, and evidence-based reform. The University is committed to enabling First Nations-led research and to improving equity in health, education, and community development across Australia.

WOMB TO TOMB FOUNDATION

provides training and support for doulas working across the full spectrum of life from birth to end-of-life care. The organisation promotes compassionate, culturally aware, and person-centred support during life’s key transitions. Through accredited programs and professional development, Womb to Tomb equips doulas with the knowledge and confidence to provide care that respects the individuality, dignity, and emotional needs of each person and family. The Foundation has a long-term partnership with the Birthing on Country research team in Galiwin’ku and joins as A co-production partners on the MAYPILAMA documentary. Womb to Tomb Website

Djakamirr Logo

DJÄKAMIRR CO-OP LTD

is a Yolŋu-led and owned organisation that trains and deploys djäkamirr (cultural caretakers or doulas) to support Yolŋu mothers and families through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Operating from a foundation of Yolŋu law, culture, and language, the Co-op works to strengthen local birthing practices while partnering with health services to create culturally safe maternity care. The Djäkamirr model demonstrates the power of community-led approaches to improve outcomes and preserve cultural authority.
